SEMINAR WORK

Seminar: Welcome

AS 397 Human Rights in Asian Contexts
"A decision to stay, a decision to leave: human trafficking across the Sino-Myanmar Border"
Fall 2019

During the fall of my senior year, I took Human Rights in Asian Contexts (AS 397) with Professor Katherine Tegtmeyer Pak. In the course, we explored human rights thought, institutions, and how the concept of human rights interacts with culture. Some of the case studies we looked at included the persecution of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, the Hong Kong protests, and gender-based violence in Pakistan. We also unpacked the philosophical and moral dimensions of human rights thought.

For my final paper, I chose to write about the Kachin people, a religious and ethnic minority in Myanmar. More specifically, I focused on Kachin women trafficked as brides into China. You can read my essay here
